What Are Affiliates And Affiliate Marketing?

Let's say someone creates a new product and is looking for ways to promote it and advertise it, so they find people or companies that are willing to market this product for a cut of the profit. This is the definition of what an affiliate is in the world of internet marketing. So if you are a product owner or a publisher looking to make money, affiliate marketing c ould easily become one of the best ways for you to make that happen.

The first person to implement the concept of affiliate marketing online was a man named William J. Tobin back in 1989, and since then, this method of generating sales has grown significantly to the point of making billions of dollars every year.

Affiliates have existed for a long time, even way before the internet was created. They could be anyone that points other people to a product, and for this they receive a percentage of the earnings made from said product or service. There are many ways in which affiliates are scouted for business. Some companies have specialized in creating affiliate networks that provide a wide variety of products and services with specific percentages for the affiliates to earn. There are many ways in which affiliate marketing can be performed. One of the most common is the use of a system called pay per sale (PPS) also know as cost per sale (CPS). This means that the publisher will get paid according to the amount of sales that he manages to generate from the advertisements published in his blog or website. Then there is the cost per action (CPA) system, and this one rewards the publisher for a certain kind of action taken by the potential buyer, an action that usually brings this person much closer to purchasing a product or service, but not necessarily requiring a sale in order for the publisher to get a commission. For obvious reasons, the CPA missions are usually, if not always much lower than the PPS alerting percentages.

One of the oldest systems for affiliate marketing is the pay per click method that has become famous and widely known by Google and their AdSense business. This one only requires that the visitors click on the advertisement displayed on the publisher's website or blog. The amount of action or involvement that the potential costumer has with the product or service is of no relevance when it comes to PPC. They do have a very sophisticated system that protects them from people who try to get earnings by cheating and clicking their own ads.

There are also affiliate programs that allow for publishers to recruit even more people and earn a percentage from their sales. This has created many other marketing strategies such as referral and multi-tier marketing. Both are similar to affiliate marketing but not really the same thing, mainly because of the way they are presented and the requirements asked in order to join these programs.

The world of affiliate marketing is very complex and there is a lot of knowledge that is required in order to get the most out of it. You can earn a lot of money from this kind of business if you have the required experience to get into it.

Write Content for Individual Personas

One of the many benefits of email marketing is its ability to target a potential buyer. It’s easy to write an email for CFOs, CMOs, supply chain professionals, and IT professionals.

Each one has a different interest, The CFO has a financial perspective. How much will the solution cost? That’s the ROI?

The IT professional meanwhile, looks at risks involved in the implementation. How long would take it to train “users” on the new solution? How difficult is it to maintain the system?

You get the gist, I’m sure.

Once you’ve identified the key personas involved in the buying decision, you can then create useful content that directly addresses to their needs, issues and concerns.

Write Content for the Phases of the Buying Cycle

To keep it simple, let’s look at the buying cycle in three distinct segments. The buying cycle goes by many different names. Some call it the sales cycle or sales funnel.

And marketers also view this cycle in different stages. I focus on three, but these can be further broken down into as many as even eight stages. It depends on how granular you want to differentiate.

For the sake of simplicity, I focus on: early, middle, and late stages of the B2B buying cycle.

· Early Stage. In this stage prospects want to educate themselves about the various solutions on the market to an existing problem. Prospects want to gather information and familiarize themselves with different approaches.

· Middle Stage. Moving to the next stage, the prospects dig deeper. Vendor credibility or track record becomes important, so does the company’s unique value proposition. How does one company compare to others in its industry?

· Late Stage. In the final stage, prospects are ready to select a business to work with. Prospects are interested how a company will work with them. Is the company easy to work with? Does the company guarantee its solutions?

Write Content Targeted at a Broad Audience

This approach is the opposite of writing to specific personas. This can be an effective approach especially in early stage. By taking a “big picture” approach you can appeal to all personas, from CEO to lower level management.

Louis Foong, a B2B demand generation specialist, suggests offering a free ROI calculator to get the cost per lead for a web optimization tool you’re selling. He maintains that an ROI calculator appeals to everyone from the CFO to the CMO to the sales department.

This is just one example. However, the point is to find a hook that has broad appeal that generates interest. Then once that’s occurred, you can write customized content for a particular persona.

The closer you can get to the core ETHOS, needs and wants of your perfect audience, the more responsive your list will be ….. PERIOD.

For example ……

If this article was written for life coaches, I would simply make the title – "list building for life coaches". I promise you, with that extra layer of specificity, I'm going to get FEWER opt in's, but a much higher percentage of people who are very specific categorized to what I'm absolutely going to offer, if that was my niche. (it's not .. 🙂

So write articles. Be HYPER specific …. and your list will be hyper responsive in return. And be aggressive …. both in building value, mailing your list AND building relationships with the small percentage of the overall list that is engaged with your content. (you CAN make a fortune with nothing else ….. I promise!)

8 Steps to Effective Email Marketing Content

Email marketing is rife.

Everyone is doing it.

Every day your inbox groans under the virtual weight of oodles of terrible email marketing.

There's everything from the brightly colored and poorly formed ones from "SEO experts", to the "I'm emailing following our earlier call" that never happened.

Far from inspiring you to get in touch, they really annoy you. And if you feel like that, everyone else does, which is why it's important to get your email marketing content right.

The email you send is the recipient's window on your business. If it's poorly written and formatted, they're going to give your company and wide berth.

So what can you do to make sure your emails hit the right note?

These simple to follow tips will help you.

1. Scan

It does not matter how long you (or your copywriter) spends crafting your email, the recipient is illegally to read every single word. That's why it's important your email is scannable.

The best way to do that is use sub headings that are conducive and that contain key products and service.

If you're including an offer place it in bold print so it can not be missed.

Use bulleted lists to highlight benefits and make sure your paragraphs tackle only one idea in short, easy to read sentences.

2. Flow

There's nothing worse than an email that flits from one idea to the next without any continuity.

Make sure your subject line flows effortlessly into the body of your email and the final paragraph reiterates your main message, rounded off with a call to action.

3. Be emotive

Emotion sells. Fact. Make sure you use language that empathises and plays on their heartstrings.

4. Voice

This is something copywriters talk about a lot. The tone, or voice, you use in your writing will have a big impact in how well it goes down with the reader. If you have brand guidelines in place, your email's tone should follow them. But if you're not sure think about your audience and choose an appropriate tone for them.

5. Give proof

Why should I buy from you?

That's what your reader is going to be asking, so make sure you give them excellent reasons in the form of benefits that are backed up by facts.

6. I'll say it again

Usually you do not want to be repeating yourself in your copy, but in this case you can make an exception.

The offer in your headline should be repeated in the body copy and then again in the call to action. Just make sure you vary the language and words that you use.

7. Psychology

Yes, it's time for a bit of psychology.

Offer valuable information so they will feel obliged to buy from you. Use case studies and testimonials to show how others have already benefited (do they really want to miss out?). Limit the offer by time or number to increase scarcity – there's no way they'll want to miss out.

8. Review

Not only should you review your email for typos, you also need to check it to make sure:

• Your paragraphs are short and snappy

• The subject matter is relevant to your audience

• Your offer is correct

• Your message is short and sweet

• You can scan the email and still understand what it's about

Blogging For SEO Success

A lot has been said recently online about blogging and guest blogging. While 2013 was coming to an end, 'guest blogging' was on every marketers lips. Matt Cutt's Blog on the 20th January of this year caused marketers to tear their hair out. Like all things, when an idea hits the internet, every one hops on that bandwagon for fear of not following the crowd.

While I agree with aspects of both sides of the argument, I feel most marketers are missing the point of all the 'Google' updates in the first place. I understand most marketers are frustrated in being lead to believe a tactic will work, and within a few months, are told that it will lead to penalies. Where I agree with the general feeling of resentment is the idea that being backlinked to / from a spammy blog will cause you to be penalized, rather than the spammy blog itself. I honestly believe if the intention is to reduce spam, Google should target spam sites first, not those who link to it. If there is no value in a site, no one will want to link to it in the first place. It's a catch 22, because no matter what becomes the next big thing for marketers, it means that thousands of sites / SEOists will be doing a lot of that, all the time. This in itself will become spammy, and face a potential penalty down the line at some stage.

I find a different approach works. Uniqueness. Why follow the crowd so fast and so much. If you hear about the next big internet marketing trend, take your time with it. Look at it tomorrow. Figure out where the benefit is for you and your customers, and if it makes sense, do it. Never loose sight of the most important thing – Your Brand. Forget what implications may arise from the search engines. Forget about what you can not control. Focus on what can be achieved. I believe in the 80/20 rule across the board. 80% effort on tried and trusted ideas and 20% on speculation. I treat my own companies, guidelines and my clients differently. I do not preach 'do what I do' to everyone. I believe in Giving my customers a combination of what they want and what is best for them. There are no set of 'must follow rules' when it comes to blogging, SEO or marketing online. What is true because if you read between the lines and the consequent falling out of love with guest blogging is this: marketers who do the same things that other marketers are doing are not doing their job properly. In my mind that is spam. This creates in itself a problem for search engines, as yet again, they can not tell the good from the bad. All they can do is tarnish everyone with the same brush.

Getting to the point of using blogs for SEO success brings me to this. Most companies have been told to create a blog on a big, high ranking blog site, assuming that would be the route to success. In theory it sounds good, to get a back link from high GR site would do wonders for you. The problem as I see it is most of these pages have a very low page authority, as they are isolated in the world wide web. This means not only is it hard to find, but creating a linking system is time consuming and not a great use of effort. A better plan is to create a blog on your own site, and share it to your social media every time you post. If you are serious about using a blog, the benefits of using your branded site for it are immense. It creates fresh content, which Google love. Also, It fulfills your requirement to write relative and fresh content. Not much chance of it being duplicate if you write it yourself. It can act as a newsletter, without having to use mailchimp or other mail merge software. People can subscribe to your feed instead. You can utilize images at the correct size for optimal sharing, increasing the chances of your blog going 'viral'. (I use the term Viral loosely).

You can easily share it to your social media of choice, either by an automated system or by a share plugin. I work on WordPress systems mostly and by far the best option is 'Jetpack'. Some hosting companies will not allow a direct link to WordPress, as it is deemed to be a security risk. But if you have a WordPress website, and add a posting page, connected with jetpack, it is amazing. The Publicize feature is my tip of the day. You can prepare a new post in minutes, add a featured image and publish to your own site, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Tumblr, LinkedIn and Path at the click of a button. What is best is it links to your blog page on social media sites. This encourages people to click through to your site, which is the main aim in blogging in the first place. So there you have it, start from your own site, link to external sites, with natural links to your home site. It takes as long as it takes to write an article, and you get to tick all the boxes for cross platform posting, with an anchor link in one.
