Keep it friendly
Even if your writing a how to blog about a subject that is technical, you can keep it warm and conversational by sharing your own experiences. Use adjectives and similes and do not forget the lessons you learned from your creative writing classes, these rules still apply. Make yourself the protagonist and write from first person perspective. Ask yourself: Do I have any humorous or entertaining stories that apply to the subject? Or you might share a failure. When you appeal to the readers emotions – you create an impression.
Figure out your target readers and give them information they want
Research trends and interests of your target market and choose subject your readers will find practical. Then you become a resource for them and your readers will return and become followers. You can lead a horse to water and you can make him drink.
Grab attention in your title and first line
Think of the printed newspaper, the headline creates interest. Now you have their attention and you have to keep it. The first paragraph in a news paper article is referred to as the lead paragraph. This is where you make the sale and entice them to read the rest of the information.
Make the delivery
In your beginning statement you gave your reader the five "W's", Who? What? When? Why? How? Now it's time to get to the point and explain. Use well known examples as reference points. Once you support your points, play devil's advocate and think of objectives. Entice the reader and provoke them to respond but not in the same way you goed your little sister.
Create a scenario for follow up
Most likely you blogging for a purpose other than hear yourself talk. Whether you're trying to make a sale, generate traffic to your website, demonstrate your expert knowledge, or generate leads, readers can be encouraged if you offer then information they deem valuable. So what can you do to create action? Ask an opened ended question. This creates a situation for them to comment and pass the blog along. Readers like to share with their friends what comments they make, get them to comment then share. Ask them to do something, like visit your website and check out your products and services.
