What All Small Business Websites Require

If you have a small business and you want to advertise on the Web, it can be extremely tempting to just run out and make a website. This can be a big mistake, however. Sites for small businesses require different things than personal sites, academic sites or other types of Web presence. If you don’t pay attention to the special characteristics of your business, you could run into trouble. Let’s take a look at some of the things that your site requires.

Site Description

Any business site needs to get to the point quickly. Include a description of your business and what your site does where your visitors can see it easily. This doesn’t need to be long or complex, but it does need to be obvious and accessible. If your readers aren’t sure how the site works, they won’t stay to find out. Make sure your description includes a good way to contact you, as well.

Sensible Address

Competition for Web addresses can make it hard to get the URL you like best. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t work to find a short, easily-understood one, however. Make sure that the Web address you pick makes sense, isn’t hard to spell, and won’t confuse potential visitors. There’s nothing worse than accidentally sending traffic to the competition because your customers can’t remember your website address.

Site Map

A good business website will actually have two site maps: one for visitors and one for the search engines. Both serve the same purpose: to get people to your pages quickly and efficiently. The search engine site map must be built using XML and requires special formatting. The one for visitors can be set up however you like; just make sure that it’s easy to read and understand.

Quality Content

There are lots of tips and tricks for bringing in traffic, but one of the most important is to have high quality content. That means taking the time to look at what you’ve written, hiring a professional writer if necessary, and avoiding the temptation to duplicate content that can be found somewhere else. A flashy design might bring viewers in, but quality content is what keeps them from leaving.

Friendly Design

If you make a website, you should also pay careful attention to page design. It’s important to look for something that does more than just look good. You also need to think about your prospective audience and the features that will attract them. For instance, if you’re building a page that needs to look fresh and interesting for people with a lot of computer experience, the latest multimedia extras may be important. If your audience is mostly older or contains people who have disabilities, you may need to forgo animations and other flashy elements in favor of a site that’s very easy to navigate.

Find Profitable Keywords – A Simple Guide

For any online marketing campaign and efforts, a good and profitable keyword is a must. Of course, keywords bring visitors to your site and these words of group of words are responsible for bringing potential customers to your site.

If you want to make profits on your website, or you want to make money on your blogs, having a good keyword and a profitable one can be your determining factor. Keywords allow search engines to index your site and when indexed, it will also bring online visitors from the search engines to your website or your blog.

If you want to launch your online campaign for your business, here are a few tips that will help you find profitable keywords.

If you already have a business and you just want to promote it, get a keyword or key phrase that is relevant to your niche or subject of your website, or what your business is all about. If your business is pet care, then you may want to have a set of keywords about pet care.

If you are still to set up a blog or a website where you want to make extra money from, you may want to think of a profitable niche so that you can also get profitable keywords. Of course, the choice of a profitable niche will help you find good money online. To match a profitable niche, you also have to find keywords that match your profitable niche.

Another consideration in choosing key phrases or keywords for your website is to consider that these keywords have good search volumes per month. However, this can be a little tricky. Keywords with very few search volumes in a month means it is not effective in generating traffic for your site. If you have keywords that have huge search volumes in a month can be very competitive however. If you choose a highly competitive keyword, you may end up getting no share of traffic as a lot of competitors are vying for it.

The rule of thumb is to settle at the middle. Keywords settled at hundreds of search volumes can be at least the best keyword you can get. To find profitable keywords, look for their search volume and compare. To help you find profitable keywords, you can use Google's keyword tool, Yahoo's Overture and many other tools online that can help you get the best keywords for your website.

You might also need to analyze your keywords and their output so that you can determine which of the keywords are bringing good traffic to your site. You may also find tools to help you compare and monitor keyword performance. Of course, the better keywords you choose, the more volume of traffic you can get from your online marketing campaign. Keep in mind too that getting a keyword with good search volume but is too general for your niche may give you good traffic but may not give you sales, so make sure you also weigh these words according to relevance and search volume.

3 Online Dating Profile Samples To Get You Noticed

Writing an online dating profile can be difficult for many people using a dating website. There are many generic dating examples online that sound the same. Many dating members are searching on how to write the perfect online dating profile. Here are 3 creative examples that I’ve concocted, which can inspire a single guy or single girl on any dating website!

First Example:

“Hello to everyone reading this! I’m new to the online dating scene and have heard good and bad things about it. I never assume anything before finding out all the facts on my own. I am newly single and want to move slowly back into dating. If you are someone who likes to take things slow and use their slow cooker, send me a message!

“My adventurous side has me watching anything on storm watching and would love to try it with someone who knows what they are doing. It’s always great to learn new things and have a list of things I’d like to accomplish by the end of the year. It would be nice to meet someone who wants to learn new hobbies and interests from each other. I am a chef by profession and artist by the weekend. I am a self-taught artist who enjoys dabbling in paint, ceramics and anything unusual.

“If you are a risk-taker and would like to know more, I would enjoy receiving a message from you. Tell me what you find risky. Have a creative week and watch out for that storm!”

Second Example:

“I really don’t want to bore you to tears by writing about what a great catch I am. I’m sure you’ve read many dating profiles that have told you they are perfect for you! I’ve always believed that actions speak louder than words don’t you think? It would be great to meet face to face for coffee and see where it goes from there.

“I’m not scared to let you know that I have flaws. I’m a perfectionist and can use a whole package of good paper trying to handwrite something. With the internet world taking over, it’s nice to write an actual handwritten letter to family and friends. I know that recycling is huge so don’t worry, I do use the paper I’ve scrapped for other things! You would think because I’m a perfectionist that I have the perfect job. That, I have not perfected yet. I’m still looking for my true calling and am taking part-time classes at the University after work.

“If you are honest and are looking to meet someone for casual dating, make sure to email me. I am looking to date but if it leads to something more, it’s always a good thing. Don’t forget to tell me something about yourself!”

Third Example:

“I’m a person who enjoys meeting new people all the time. I love to socialize, embrace life and am a lot of fun if I say so myself! Online dating has been quite the adventure and I am still looking for that special someone. If you are looking for someone genuine, I’m your man! I don’t have patience for people who pretend to be something they are not.

“I’m honest, forgiving and love to laugh. If you can make me laugh, I would be interested in speaking to you. There are too many people who take life seriously and don’t make time to enjoy the finest pleasures. That would include taking in the outdoors, sitting in front of a fireplace and eating gummy worms on a regular basis for me!

“Tell me what your idea of having fun is. I enjoy the weekends out when I am not working in the week and would love to have someone accompany me. It could be an evening of taking in the local comedy scene or local bands. Drop me an email and we’ll chat soon!”

What Does La Quinta Mean in Spanish?

La Quinta Inn airport locations are one of the best places to stay when you need a home base away from home that is convenient to both the downtown business district and the airport. Personally, I love the Pittsburgh Airport La Quinta Inn. Why? Because it’s the one near where I live! I love dropping in for breakfast when my family and friends stay there when visiting.

But always they are asking, “What does La Quinta mean?” It sure sounds Spanish, but my sister, who is a Spanish teacher, could only come up with the explanation that it meant “the fifth.” Huh? So is La Quinta Inn the fifth hotel? Probably not.

I did some sleuthing. I looked up some other places called La Quinta (not so uncommon, as you can imagine) and found an old city called La Quinta. According to their department of commerce, the word is archaic (i.e. not in use anymore. Like Netscape Navigator and Big Mouth Billy Basses). It meant a hacienda or rest stop along the way during a very long journey. Every five days, travelers would take a load off at one of these “la quintas.”  So, there you go – it’s where you stay to recharge on the fifth day of travel.

Now, when you visit the La Quinta Inn at the airport, you obviously won’t be travelling by horseback or foot. But with all the sightseeing and business dealing and family visiting, you can kind of imagine what it must’ve felt like for those early travellers to take a load off after five days.

Characteristics That Make a Good Volunteer

Volunteering is hard work and takes a certain level of patience and flexibility. Anyone can volunteer but not everyone will be great at it. There are various characteristics that add up to make a great volunteer.

1. Determination

To be successful in your endeavors as a volunteer, you have to have the resolve to see things through. It does not matter if you are volunteering domestically or abroad, there are going to be bumps in the road. If you possess the determination to reach your goals and work on your project to the best of your abilities, you will get through the challenges presented to you along the way. Lack of determination will make any challenge seem insurmountable.

2. Commitment

Commitment goes hand-in-hand with determination. You need to be committed to your project, your cause, and your reasons for becoming a volunteer. Things will not always go the way you planned and there are going to be times when you will want to give up. This is normal. But if you lack commitment to your assignment, you will give in to defeat. Your commitment to your project as well as personal goals will help you stay focused on what is important.

3. Creativity

To be a volunteer, you have to have an imagination. The problems and challenges you encounter on a daily basis will be ones you have never faced with before. You will need to be creative with your problem-solving, communication, and teaching methods. If you are volunteering abroad, you may have to explain things several times, several different ways to communicate your idea. To be cliché- think outside the box. The more creative you get, the easier it is going to be to get around obstacles.

4. Passion

Simply put, you need to love what you do. Your passion will help you stay committed, which in turn will help you ride out the rough patches of your volunteer service. This is why choosing a project you that genuinely interests you in a field you want to learn more about is so important. Do not choose projects based on popularity or because your friends did it. You need to really care about what you are doing.

5. Resiliency

It is not the challenges you face, but how you bounce back that will make or break you. If you give up easily in the face of adversity, volunteering, especially abroad, is not for you. As a former Peace Corps Volunteer, I am not ashamed to tell you my failures far outnumbered my successes. However, it was my ability to learn from my mistakes and to not let my failures get the better of me that lead to my successes.

6. Organization

You will need to be able to organize facts, documents, and data, not only for your project but for your personal use as well. Remember that your community and co-workers are watching and learning from you. Being organized is helpful skill to have and if your community sees how well you document meetings, project data, etc, they will learn to do the same. You will want to document all your activities and outcomes as well, so you can look back later and add important skills and experiences to your resume.

7. Openness

You are going to be surrounded by people who hold different ideals and beliefs than you. You need to be open enough to accept the differences, even if you do not agree with them. You have to find a way to not only work with all types of people, but to learn from them.

Great Plans For Building a Shed

Experience has taught me a few things about building I would like to share with you so that you will not fall into the trap I did.

When we moved into our house some years ago, there was one outbuilding already in place. Before long it was full of lawn working supplies.

Since the stuff a family treasures grows, the time came when my wife thought we were ready to add more storage space. I had built some small birdhouses, maybe a washing well or two for the children over the years. I thought my talents were sufficient to put up a simple storage shed.

I rushed out to the do-it-yourself store and purchased a bunch of lumber. It never occurred to me that I needed a set of plans. After all, we are talking about a simple storage shed here.

That was among the silliest things I think I ever did. Truly not a smart move on my part. I learned that trial and error did not a shed build.

Very soon I realized I was in way over my head, with no way to back out gracefully and recoup my loses. I learned that I wasted money and time because I did not approach my project in the right way.

This was not a birdhouse I was building and I was not using Popsicle sticks for wood. Time was gone, money was gone, and I had boards that I did not know what to do with.

Plus, the wife was not happy with me. To say I had created a mess was an understatement.

The wife encouraged me to understand that the need for a shed did not go away. Soon as I had some money saved and a long week end coming up, I decided to go back to my project, but this time, I intended to approach it differently.

Since my failed attempt to build a shed, I had been visited by the representative of the home owners association who told me as clearly as he could that what I had started did not conform to the association guidelines and it would need to be taken down completely , All the way to the ground.

That was not too hard to do, I reasoned, because I really did not get very far into the project before abandoning the plan I did not have.

The friendly representative cave me some tips, like learn what the guidelines are, get a building permit, get a good set of plans. He even cave me the internet address of a place to find plans to suit any project I wanted to take on.

Following the advice I had been given, I checked out the building codes for my part of town, and the home owners association guidelines. Once I thought I had a good handle on those two things, I was ready to go online and search for the right plans.

I found the website I was looking for and was amazed to find thousands and thousands of plans. It did not take me long to find a set of plans for just the right storage shed.

And, like the home owner association representative said, the plans came with a complete list of materials. I could buy everything I needed, and do not have left over wood or hardware.

The plans I chose even had a cut chart showing what size I needed to cut the wood. I was able to cut all the pieces of wood I would use before I started the building. That would prove to be a real time saver.

Since I was putting up another building on our property, you know the wife had to be consulted. And, lucky for me, I did just that. She helped me to understand how this building needed to blend in or match the house and the other shed building that was on the property.

Together we decided where this building would fit fit on our lot, and even the color to paint it when I finished the building.

With my new knowledge of the building codes and an understanding of the plans I purchased, I was able to get my project underway on my three-day week end. My shed building was finished and even painted before I had to go to work on Monday.

The wife and I think our building enhances the curve appealing of our property. Now that it is complete, we can move more of the stuff out of our garage and I will no longer be embarrassed to open my garage door.

2006 Emerging Military Strategy Trends

Recently we saw a victory in Iraq as we took down the Iraqi army in what was clearly the most decisive military victory in history, as we went against the then world's third largest army. When major combat operations were over, we moved into a new strategy and set up safety nets to protect the people of Iraq and establish a Democracy. The strategy worked, as purple fingers were the proof.

As 2005 ends we have switched into high gear, as we move to a new strategy, which will certainly lead to a new Iraq, a democracy in the heart of the Middle East. When one looks at a map all they can do is be amazed at the Herculean endeavors performed in the true spirit of peace.

In 2006 we will see new military strategies emerge as our armies, Navy and Air Force use more robotics to help them get it done. We will have more information than ever before and computer assisted artificial intelligence to help us accumulate it all, decipher it and use it to our advantage. We will see a premium on surveillance information of all kind and we will work hard to protect innocent human life from collateral damage and the lives of our team (blue force).

We will see more scrutiny paid to unique attack methods of the enemy to disrupt our economy and / or flows of our civilization. We will put in place more sensors to detect bio-weapons, illegal entry and WMD. We will pay careful attention to making the rounds and maintaining allies as things in bordering nations of our declared or known enemies in the Middle East and Asia continue to fester build up their military hardware and plot against us both in the World Political arena and in secret Alliances. Although not this year or the next; Ever Carl von Clauswitz and Sun Tzu will meet or not. At that time and place a mixture of Machiavellian wit and Colonel Boyd Charm will determine the outcome of the largest game of risk "the Globe has ever known." Think on this as we move through 2006.
